Supporting Infrastructure Development

Marine terminal operators invest significant capital inside the nation's port facilities to move cargo between modes of transportation. Infrastructure that supports the port facilities, including waterways, railways, roads, bridges and tunnels, are also critical to the success of the marine terminal operator or stevedore in order to keep cargo moving in and out of the facility throughout the supply chain. Strategic planning for and investment in and around the nation's port facilities has not been a recent priority at the national level.

NAWE Position

In 2018 there is wide anticipation of efforts on behalf of the nation's infrastructure. It is essential that the priorities in and around port facilities are included. NAWE supports traditional infrastructure investment such as dredging, bridges, roads and rail but also seeks the inclusion of the operators ... inside the gate requirements. The nation deserves a national port strategy and supporting fiscal measures addressing these issues.
